Boxing can sometimes be a hard topic to talk about for fitness, On one hand its probably the best way to get your cardiovascular to its peak condition but the other side of the coin is that you can get punched in the face and it tends to hurt.
I have been involved in boxing on and off for 5 years, My personal opinion is that boxing IS the best kind of work out you can do to improve your overall physical conditioning. Now Lets talk about getting punched!
Getting punched in the face can hurt... the principles behind boxing is to punch someone and not get punched back right? Only Joking...
If you want the overall experience of boxing then I would say go to a boxing club and get in the ring. You will find respect patience and an overall love for the sport. Being punched isn't for everyone and that's ok. If you would just like the fitness-related benefits of Boxing without stepping into a ring you can go to most commercial Gyms and do boxing fitness related classes.

Boxing (and all martial arts) is less about throwing your strength around and more to do with the balance and coordination. If you start Boxing there is a saying that has followed me from my first boxing coach "Anyone can knock anyone out but the trick is to beat them to the punch" Beating someone to the punch means to take the opportunity to punch your opponent before they punch you. Or does it. Through out my training I took that saying and applied it to all my boxing aspects, not just punching someone before they punch me. Boxing is a very technical sport and out performing them technically to make them look like a novice was always my game plan instead of knocking them out.
Boxing also improved confidence and self defence abilities. You might not go out on a Friday night and think hmm who can I fight? but you will have a basic understanding of a form of self defence and boxing is one of the classic stand up forms of self defence, it allows for quick, direct moves to be applied against an opponents if needs be.
Thanks for reading this blog, I will end it on a quotation from a famous boxer
"He might have heart, he can hit harder and he can be stronger, but there's no fighter smarter then me"
-Floyd Mayweather Jr.
